OUR FIRST STEPS
1 Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand;
Every journey begins with an introduction. July 21, 1969, Neil Armstrong stepped off the Apollo 11 spacecraft onto the surface of the moon. His first words are still remembered today, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Man’s introduction of his moon exploration had begun! His first step on unexplored territory was a giant leap for mankind. What he would discover and the changes it would bring have transformed our lives in so many ways!
Our introduction into God’s saving grace is similar to stepping off of Apollo 11. It may seem like a small step at the time, but it is one “giant leap” into the transforming power of His grace! Our introduction into His grace is a little like stepping down onto the moon’s surface for the first time. It’s life-changing and yet we are unable to see or understand the fullness of what just happened or the everyday affects on our life.
Before we knew of God’s grace, we were separated from Him because of our sin, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We were not at peace with God and could not of any effort of our own justify ourselves to create that peace. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” We will experience our introduction into God’s grace when we step into His offering of justification through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus’ death on the cross paid the price for our sins that we may stand justified before God. By faith we have peace with God. Through Jesus Christ we have received our introduction into this grace in which we now stand! It’s a giant leap and yet it’s just the first step.
If you have never been introduced to God’s grace, let me share with you a prayer that you can pray that you may be introduced to His amazing grace. “Lord Jesus, I realize that my sin separates me from You. I acknowledge that I am not good enough to stand justified before a Holy God. I believe that you died on the cross and shed your blood to pay for my sins. By grace through faith in You, I’m asking You to be my Lord and Savior. I’m trusting You to take me to heaven. Thank You Jesus for Your amazing grace and saving me today. Amen! “
Take a moment to share with your group the day God’s saving grace started you on your journey.
Look back and remember the times of grace that led you to your day of salvation. Even when we did not understand what grace was, we now know that what sustained us and protected us for that day was His grace. Give Him glory! He is a patient and loving God!
(Ex.34:6; Psa.78:38; Isa. 30:18; Rom. 3:25; 1Tim. 1:16)
Now that you have been introduced, let’s discover all that God’s grace has to offer us!
